Ten Quick Tips for Getting Started

  1. Get out from behind that desk – volunteer for interdepartmental and campus committees/activities
  2. Stay current in LIS and in your subject specialty
  3. Listen, listen, listen
  4. Don’t think outside the box – build a new one
  5. Network with other librarians who have been successful
  6. Pass it on – offer to share your skills & expertise across campus
  7. Get to know your potential partners – do some research of your own
  8. Don’t challenge the stereotype – create a new one
  9. Remember: It’s not personal, it’s interpersonal
  10. Recognize your own value as a librarian
